CUT and Centlec celebrate success of Executive Leadership Programme
20 executives from the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality’s electricity distributor, Centlec, have received credit-bearing certification from the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT)’s Executive Leadership and Management Development short learning programme (SLP).
Launched in 2024, this one-of-a-kind programme was custom crafted for 20 Centlec executive and senior management officials. The programme, with its unique approach, is set to revolutionise leadership and management skills in a practical and effective manner.
In her address, Prof. Wendy Setlalentoa, Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal, emphasised the significance of the programme being the first credit-bearing SLP at CUT since its transition to a university of technology in 2004.
“This ceremony is a significant milestone, not only about awarding certificates, but also about acknowledging the monumental effort, commitment, and spirit of lifelong learning that CUT and Centlec have embraced. Today, we gather to celebrate the significant achievement of the Faculty of Management Sciences and the graduates who have successfully completed this rigorous programme. Your accomplishment is a testament to your dedication and the high standards of our university. We will continue focusing a great deal of attention on various partnership initiatives to support our metro’s journey to the ‘City on the Move’,” said Prof. Setlalentoa.
Councillor Lulama Titi-Odili, Deputy Executive Mayor of Mangaung, applauded CUT for its role in empowering local government leaders, adding that they have already started implementing their new skills. “I’m happy that you designed this programme to really empower our administration. You are assisting them to lead, because we need people who are knowledgeable, people who are honest, and people who are dealing with good governance,” she said.
Mpho Molemela, Centlec Executive Manager: Human Resources and a recipient of a certificate, excitedly explained that this partnership was proving beneficial to all.
“I’m passionate about development, and that is why I decided to take part in this programme. And this is only the beginning. Others will also enroll and improve themselves. I am an advocate for education, and I truly believe you’re never too old to learn. And what we’ve gained so far is not only an individual achievement, but will benefit Centlec and, by extension, the community of Mangaung,” she said proudly.
The programme is offered in line with the new approach to education and training, which mandates institutions of higher learning in the country to provide space for the development, upskilling, and multiskilling of human capital in their surrounding communities.
