The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be convened in New York from 14-23 July, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council.
The theme of the HLPF is “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind.”

Wednesday, 23 JulyWHO EPI-WIN Webinar: plague in the 21st century — new evidence to control a re-emerging zoonotic disease
Plague, a zoonotic disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, has affected humans for thousands of years and has been responsible for three major pandemics in human history, causing millions of deaths. Early identification and prompt management of cases are crucial to ensure improved clinical and public health outcomes and inform the implementation of appropriate control measures. Recent data from a randomized controlled trial on bubonic plague offer valuable insights into plague treatment strategies and may be used to support global control efforts.
During this webinar, from 13:00 – 14:00 CEST, an overview of the WHO global strategy for plague control will be presented, illustrating current technical guidance on surveillance, laboratory diagnosis, clinical management, and coordinated outbreak response mechanisms.

WHA78 debriefing: Global Action Plan on Climate Change and Health
At the Seventy-eighth World Health Assembly in May 2025, Member States adopted the first-ever Global action plan on climate change and health [https://apps.who.int/gb/ebwha/pdf_files/WHA78/A78_4Add2-en.pdf] 2025-2028 [https://apps.who.int/gb/ebwha/pdf_files/WHA78/A78_4Add2-en.pdf], marking an important step forward in global health and climate policy. Building on commitments made at previous Conference of the Parties (COPs) and the outcomes of the Executive Board meeting in February 2025, this Plan supports WHO’s work to promote health leadership in the global climate agenda and coordinate country-level action and implementation.
During this public webinar from 14:00 – 16:00 CEST, the WHO Secretariat will debrief on the key elements of the Global Action Plan 2025–2028 and the next steps in its implementation, as well as highlight opportunities for Member States, partners, and other stakeholders to contribute to and support action on various levels.

World Drowning Prevention Day 2025
Drowning has claimed over 3 million lives in the past decade – mostly children and youth – demanding urgent action now. This #WorldDrowningPrevention Day, we’re sharing powerful stories about changemakers from around the world who are helping to save lives and prevent lifelong disabilities caused by drowning. From teaching communities about water safety to developing national drowning prevention plans, their combined efforts have helped to keep people safe around water.
