(AGENPARL) – Mon 14 July 2025 Launch of the 2025 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World Report (SOFI)
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Monday, 28 July 2025 | 17:30–19:00 CEST
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with its UN co-publishing partners – the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) – will launch the 2025 edition of The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report at a Special Event during the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 28 July 2025.
A key global reference on food insecurity and malnutrition, the SOFI report tracks progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger. The 2025 edition will provide the most recent data and trends on hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition across the globe, along with updated estimates on the cost and affordability of healthy diets – a critical indicator of food access and equity.
This year’s theme, “Addressing high food price inflation for food security and nutrition”, highlights how rising food prices – exacerbated by conflict, climate shocks, and economic instability – are threatening progress towards ending hunger and all forms of malnutrition by 2030. The report investigates the underlying causes of food price inflation, particularly in low-income and vulnerable countries, and analyses its impact on household food access, diet quality, and nutritional outcomes.
Based on the latest available data, the report will also outline concrete, evidence-based policy recommendations to address both the short- and long-term effects of food price volatility, and support governments and partners in building more resilient, inclusive and nutrition-sensitive food systems.
The launch event will include a technical presentation of the report’s key findings.
The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) is an annual flagship report jointly prepared by FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO.
