Exhibition Overview
Conceived as a dynamic dialogue between past works and new productions, the exhibition places particular emphasis on the artist’s recent engagement with Lebanon. During her residency in Beirut, Di Martino developed two new pieces-including The Focus of Attention (Up!), shown here for the first time. This installation, consisting of two projected archival images, probes themes of expectation, collective memory, and speculative fiction.
Works such as Electric Whispers, Kant Can’t, Afterall, Poor, Poor, Jerry, and L’eccezione extend Di Martino’s critical investigation into digital cultures, identity, and the aesthetics of displacement-merging poetic visual languages with sound, animation, and cinematic fragments.

About the Artist
Rä di Martino (b. 1975, Rome) is a visual artist working with film, video, photography, and installation. Her work has been shown at institutions such as Tate Modern, MoMA PS1, MAXXI, and the Venice Biennale. She explores themes of identity, memory, media culture, and virtuality, often reappropriating fragments from cinema, archives, and speculative narratives.

Présentation de l’exposition
Au cœur de cette exposition figure le travail mené par l’artiste durant sa résidence à Beyrouth, où elle a conçu deux nouvelles œuvres, dont The Focus of Attention (Up!), exposée ici pour la première fois. Cette installation, composée de deux diapositives projetées issues de recherches archivistiques, évoque un imaginaire collectif entre mémoire, attente et science-fiction.
L’exposition met également en lumière une nouvelle pièce intégrée à la série en cours Open Trees (2012-en cours), dans laquelle une photographie de 1908 représentant un paysage de Saida, retravaillée numériquement, dialogue avec des tirages en noir et blanc illumines par lumière UV, explorant la photographie comme espace de mémoire reconfigurée.

Rä di Martino (née en 1975 a Rome) est une artiste visuelle qui travaille entre film, vidéo, photographie et installation. Son œuvre a été présentée dans des institutions telles que la Tate Modern, le MoMA PS1, le MAXXI, ou encore la Biennale de Venise. Elle explore les notions d’identité, de mémoire, d’imaginaire cinématographique et de virtualité, à travers des langages hybrides qui mêlent archive et fiction.

يُقدم المعرض كحوار ديناميكي بين أعمال سابقة وأخرى جديدة، مع تركيز خاص على تجربة الفنانة الأخيرة في لبنان. من خلال إقامتها الفنية في بيروت، طوّرت دي مارتينو عملين جديدين، من بينهما “تركيز الانتباه (إلى الأعلى!)”، والذي يُعرض في لبنان للمرة الأولى. تتألف هذه التركيبة من صورتين أرشيفيتين مسلّط عليهما الضوء وتتناول مواضيع مثل الترقب، الذاكرة الجماعية، والخيال التأملي.
وتستكمل أعمال مثل “همسات كهربائية”، “كانط لا يستطيع”، “في النهاية”، “جيري المسكين، المسكين”، و”الاستثناء” البحث النقدي للفنانة دي مارتينو النقدي في مواضيع الثقافة الرقمية، الهوية، والسرديات الخيالية، حيث تمزج بين لغات بصرية شعرية مع الصوت، الرسوم المتحركة، ولقطات سينمائية.
