NOVATEK sells 32,000 carbon units for the benefit of a Sakhalin
Experiment participant
Moscow, 17 June 2025. NOVATEK-YURKHAROVNEFTEGAS, a wholly-owned subsidiary
of PAO NOVATEK, concluded one of the largest deals in the history of the Russian carbon units
market to sell carbon units for the benefit of a participant in the Sakhalin Experiment on
greenhouse gas emissions reduction.
The deal concerns the sale of 32,000 carbon units issued in the Russian Carbon Units Registry
as a result of NOVATEK-YURKHAROVNEFTEGAS executing a climate project to optimize
the natural gas volumes used when disposing of waste water at the Yurkharovskoye field in
Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area.
With the carbon units purchased, the Sakhalin Experiment participant will be able to fulfill its
obligations under the region’s greenhouse gas emissions quotas.
