Committee and political group meetings
Media freedom.* The Civil Liberties Committee will hold a public hearing on media freedom and journalist protection. The event will address EU legal challenges and explore reforms to strengthen press freedom, safeguard journalists, and ensure media sustainability, focusing on challenges such as disinformation, surveillance, and manipulation /(Thursday). /
Plenary preparations*. Political groups will prepare for the 16-19 June plenary session, where MEPs will outline their priorities for the 26-27 June EU summit, and debate and vote on a new law to fight child sexual abuse. Also on the plenary agenda are an assessment of the impact and benefits of the Recovery and Resilience Funds invested to date in member states, and debates and votes on the Clean Industrial Deal and on the Commission’s 2024 Rule of Law Report. The EU-Ukraine Road Transport Agreement will be put to a vote and there will be a debate on the dramatic situation of illegally detained Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war. On Wednesday, King Abdullah II of Jordan will address MEPs in a formal sitting.
Pre-session press briefing*. The EP’s Press Service will hold a press briefing with the Parliament’s political group spokespersons /at 11:00 on Friday/ (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).
European Youth Event.* Parliament will welcome around 8,500 young people to Strasbourg for EYE2025 (the European Youth Event). Young citizens will be able to engage in discussions with MEPs, Commissioners and other EU decision-makers as well as with experts, activists, and content creators. /(Friday and Saturday)/.
President’s diary*. On Monday, EP President Metsola will be in New York, where she will deliver a keynote speech at the US Council on Foreign Relations and meet with the leadership of the NY Stock Exchange. On Wednesday, she will visit the Queen Fabiola Children’s University Hospital in Brussels for the International Day of Play. President Metsola will also speak at an event titled ‘Reskilling Europe: a driver for growth and competitiveness’ organised by Santander. On Thursday, she will address the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU’s annual gala.
