Closing the gaps: raising awareness of the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines

This year, the World Health Organization (WHO) and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital have commenced the distribution of critically needed childhood cancer medicines in six pilot countries, through the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines [https://www.who.int/teams/noncommunicable-diseases/ncds-management/cancer-programme/global-platform-for-access-to-childhood-cancer-medicines] (Global Platform).
Currently, medicines are being delivered to Ecuador, Mongolia, Nepal, Uzbekistan and Zambia, with next shipments planned for Jordan. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cz9EMwzcpNM&t] The treatments are expected to reach approximately 5000 children with cancer across at least 30 hospitals in these countries within the year. An additional six countries began the onboarding process to join the Global Platform, including El Salvador, Ghana, Moldova, Pakistan, Senegal and Sri Lanka.
Participants in this first stakeholder engagement meeting of 2025 for the Global Platform will share progress, challenges, and knowledge learned in delivering medicines to participating countries.

World No Tobacco Day: Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products
On World No Tobacco Day, the World Health Organization launches two new publications on flavours and flavour accessories calling on governments to urgently ban all flavours in tobacco and nicotine products, including cigarettes, pouches, hookahs and e-cigarettes to protect youth from addiction and disease.
This year’s World No Tobacco Day campaign highlights the manipulative tactics of the industry from product designs to attractive flavours, and glamourized marketing that hide the true dangers of tobacco and nicotine products.
