ADM: conclusion of Adriacustoms Project on Port Security and Customs Cooperation
Trieste, 13th May 2025 – The closing event of the Adriacustoms Project, aimed at promoting customs cooperation among the countries of the Adriatic Sea, was held today at the Port of Trieste.
The program, co-funded by OLAF (European Anti-Fraud Office) and coordinated by the International Relations Office of the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM), in collaboration with the Guardia di Finanza, focused on the exchange of visits, experiences, information, and technical insights among specialized customs officials from Italy, Slovenia, Albania, Croatia, and Montenegro and the adoption of a final Roadmap outlining the guiding principles for future customs activities.
Andrea Mazzella, Director of the International Relations Office of ADM, highlighted the importance of the Port of Trieste and the Adriatic Region as a key gateway for the future India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), on which Italy, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and other Middle Eastern countries are focusing in order to strengthen trade flows:
“Trieste, as well as the port network developed with Adriacustoms partners from Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Albania, represents the natural gateway for commercial flows between Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, and Asia. This is due to its history, geographical location, and infrastructures. ADM and the other customs administrations of the Adriatic Sea, through their close cooperation, can contribute to enhancing the inflow of commercial traffic towards this Region with integrated digital systems that use of the most advanced technologies, while maintaining high standards of control against fraud and illicit trafficking, to the benefit of public safety and health”.
