“Who wants to win the hemicycle?” -Alsace high school students take part in a competition
5 May, Strasbourg (Palais de l’Europe hémicycle) – The Council of Europe, in collaboration with the Information Centre of the European Institutions in Strasbourg, is organising an event entitled “Who wants to win the hemicycle?”, bringing together 450 secondary school pupils from 13 classes selected from all over Alsace.
This fun competition will test their knowledge of the Council of Europe, human rights and general European culture. This is the final of the project, the aim of which is to raise the awareness and civic commitment of young people and their teachers. The day’s programme also includes a session on sport and human rights, with the participation of paralympic swimming champion Béatrice Hess.

The main objective of the visit was to examine the treatment and living conditions of persons held in prison and of residents living in a special social welfare establishment. Particular attention was paid to the measures taken by the authorities to implement recommendations made by the Committee after its previous visits.
6 May, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing five judgments concerning Azerbaijan, Greece, Hungary, Italy and Serbia.
The opening ceremony and the fair of the youth centres are open to media (6 May, 10:00 – 12:30, at the Marienthal Youth Centre, Rue de Keispelt, 7411 Marienthal Helperknapp). Working language of the event is English.
7 May, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will be holding a Grand Chamber hearing in the case Yasak v. Türkiye (application no. 17389/20), at 9.15 am.
9 May, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing 15 judgements and/or decisions concerning Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Republic of Moldova, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain and Ukraine.
