Howdy!
I want to make sure you’ve heard that the BAM Range is now open for the nation’s business at Texas A&M-RELLIS.
BAM, an acronym for Ballistic Aero-Optics and Materials, is a high-tech enclosed testing range for hypersonic and directed energy weapons innovation, including new types of materials that can withstand hypervelocity impacts. It’s the latest world-class feature of the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex.
Laser experiments began last October in the BAM, and other types of testing will soon get started. We built the BAM to serve the nation for decades. It will help the military and defense industry keep an edge over China, Russia and other potential adversaries in terms of high-tech weaponry.
At a dedication ceremony last week, U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Miles Brown, deputy commanding general of Army Futures Command, thanked the State of Texas and The Texas A&M University System for partnering with the Army on essential long-term investments.
“There are students in here today who will wind up working at RELLIS and making an impact on research 50 years from now,” Brown said. “We’re planting trees. We’re not planting grass.”
