Portfolio Committee on Higher Education Visit to Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT)
The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education paid the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) a visit on Tuesday, 25 March 2025, to conduct its oversight on the university’s readiness for the 2025 academic year.
During the meeting there were presentations by the University Council, Vice Chancellor, labour union, institutional forum, and the student representative council (SRC) where some challenges relating to progress on the university’s state of readiness for the 2025 academic year and other matters related to stakeholder relationships were raised.
University Management has noted the input from its stakeholders and confirms that the university has mature structures where stakeholders present matters of concern and collectively address and monitor progress.
The University is looking forward to the meeting that is yet to be confirmed by the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education where an opportunity will be availed to the University to provide detailed responses to all the challenges presented by the stakeholders.
Despite the challenges faced by the university and the higher education sector in general, it is worth noting that the university is not at any immediate risk as far as its financial viability and sustainability of its academic agenda is concerned.
The institution is on course to fulfilling its mission and mandate of becoming one of the universities of choice in Africa, driving excellent scholarship, research and community engagement guided by the principles of student-centredness, innovation and entrepreneurship.
