The Week Ahead: Key Events and Meetings
31 March – 6 April 2025
“Opre Roma!” Month and the “Romáland” theatre performance
The Council of Europe inaugurates Opre Roma! month by supporting the three-night performance of “Romáland” (a production of the Onassis Foundation) presented with the Maillon with the opening evening on 2 April at 8.30 pm.
The play is unique in its kind. All actors (amateurs) are Roma from different backgrounds but with a common denominator, namely “the discrimination throughout their lives” and they express this during their performance. Also, as part of the collaboration with the Maillon, the Alsatian artist and engraver Sébastien Kuntz will present his exhibition “Samudaripen, le génocide des tsiganes”. Theatregoers will have the chance to view his 24 works of art accompanied by the text by Claire Auzias (Council of Europe expert on Roma) from 1-11 April 2025 and meet the artist himself on the 2 and 3 April.
The performance on 2 April will be followed by a traditional musical interlude from Association Ballade, a local, secular, community-based organisation working to improve the sociocultural inclusion of vulnerable groups.
