Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau spoke today with Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs Gerardo Werthein.  Deputy Secretary Landau echoed Secretary Rubio’s and President Trump’s praise of Argentina as a trusted regional partner in promoting democracy, security, and prosperity.  Deputy Secretary Landau also thanked Foreign Minister Werthein for Argentina’s commitment to the protection of five members of the Venezuelan opposition in the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela.  Both officials condemned Nicolás Maduro for refusing them safe passage out of Venezuela.
Both Deputy Secretary Landau and Foreign Minister Werthein welcomed the opportunity to strengthen the U.S.-Argentina strategic relationship during this administration.
