Update to FAO Members on Avian Influenza Situation
Monday 17 March 2025, 12:00-13:30 CET
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will hold a special session on Monday, 17 March, to update FAO members on the ongoing H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreaks worldwide.
The persistent occurrence of H5N1 outbreaks across the globe underscores the urgent need for coordinated action to enhance biosecurity, improve surveillance systems, strengthen rapid response mechanisms, and advance strategic risk monitoring and communication. These efforts are critical to safeguarding the poultry sector, protecting livelihoods, and mitigating economic impacts.
The outbreak has placed significant economic pressure on affected regions and raised public health concerns, highlighting the importance of proactive leadership and international collaboration in addressing global animal and public health crises.
Media representatives are invited to follow the event via webcast.
