TRANSCONA BYELECTION: ELECTION CALENDAR
The following is a list of important dates for the Transcona byelection.

Feb. 18
Writ Issued
The election is called and the campaign period
begins. [The Elections Act s. 49(1)]
Nominations Open
Prospective candidates can submit nomination
papers to the local election office. [The Elections Act
s. 55(1)]
Preliminary Voters List
Distributed
The preliminary voters list for Transcona is
distributed within 48 hours to registered parties
running a candidate and to candidates. [The Elections
Act s. 75(1)(2)]
Voter Information Cards
Mailed
A voter information card is mailed to every voter on
the voters list, detailing where and when they can
vote during advance voting and on election day. [The
Elections Act s. 76.1(1)]
Feb. 18 – 27
Revision
Voters can register or update their information at
electionsmanitoba.ca, by calling Elections Manitoba,
or visiting the local election office. [The Elections Act
s. 77(1)]
March 3
Close of Nominations
Completed nomination papers must be submitted to
the local election office before 1:00 p.m. [The
Elections Act s. 56(1)(b)]
Revised Voter Information
Cards Mailed
A voter information card is mailed to voters who
registered or updated their information during the
revision period. [The Elections Act s. 88(3)]
Advance Voting
Voters may vote at any advance poll. [The Elections
Act s. 129(1)]
March 8 – 15
Advance polling places are open from 8:00 a.m. to
8:00 p.m. daily except Sunday, noon to 6:00 p.m.
Sunday. [The Elections Act s. 125(7)]
March 8 – 17
Advance Voting at the
Local Election Office
Eligible voters can cast their ballot at the Transcona
Local Election Office from the start of advance voting
until election day. [Modification to the voting
process]
March 18
Election Day
Polling places are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

March 19
Final Tally Begins
The returning officer completes a final tally of votes,
verifying the totals of all votes received. [The
Elections Act s. 160(1)]
March 21
Declaration of Candidate
The returning officer declares the candidate with the
most votes elected. [The Elections Act s. 162(1)(2)]
March 28
Return of the Writ
The returning officer certifies which candidate has
been elected on the back of the writ and returns it to
the chief electoral officer. [The Elections Act s. 171(1)]
