CUT welcomes new Director: Academic Enterprise and Services, Prof Binza
The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) welcomes Professor Mzikayise Binza, the newly appointed Director for Academic Enterprise and Services at the Welkom campus. As Director: Academic Enterprise and Services, Binza is responsible for providing academic leadership, developing, and ensuring the successful implementation of academic strategy, and enhancing student learning/teaching and research at Welkom Campus.
Prof. Binza holds a PhD in Public Administration from Nelson Mandela University. He has more than 20 years of experience in higher education and training and has worked for various universities in South Africa. He worked at WSU as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at CPUT. He also held positions as Director, HOD, and Programme Leader. He was NRF-rated from 2011 to 2016 and has more than 30 research publications in the form of books, book chapters, articles, and conference proceedings in accredited and peer-reviewed international and national journals. He has supervised 15 postgraduate students (4 Doctoral students and 11 Master’s students).
Binza is an entrepreneur and serves on the Boards of Nautilus Hotels and Raymond Mhlaba Trust Fund.
He was a Political Commissar and Special Advisor to the Hon. Mr. Mphakamisi Raymond Mhlaba during his time as Premier of the Eastern Cape Province and Commissioner/ Ambassador to Rwanda. He served as Policy Advisor to Ministers, Premiers and Executive Mayors of the democratic government of South Africa on special programmes. He is also a media commentator on service delivery issues, political- economy and liberation of Africa, conflict and transformation, African Peer Review mechanism, governance, local government, diplomacy, and democracy.
CUT looks forward to him leading, managing, and developing new niche programmes and research initiatives, coordinating internal and external partnership-based collaborations and internal alignment on the Welkom Campus Academic project. He will lead and manage the academic component of the Welkom Campus repositioning and operations plan, with the academic staff and professionals reporting to this portfolio.
