(AGENPARL) – sab 25 novembre 2023 TERNA LIGHTS UP IN RED FOR THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION
OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
Once again, beams of red light will shine on the headquarters in Rome to raise public
awareness on the issues of abuse and discrimination against women
Rome, 25 November 2023 – For the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against
Women, Terna, the Italian power-grid operator led by Giuseppina di Foggia, light up its buildings in
via Galbani in Rome in red. From sunset on 25 November until dawn, beams of red light will
display the sentence: “Terna for the International Day for the Elimination of violence against
women” on the façade of the Group’s headquarters.
It is a symbolic gesture with a strong visual impact to state and support the collective desire to
combat violence against women and raise public awareness about abuse in general, a social and
cultural emergency that is considered a human rights violation.
Valuing diversity and the uniqueness of people without discrimination is a priority for the Italian
power-grid operator. This is why the Group’s Code of Ethics and the Diversity & Inclusion Policy is
the cornerstone of all its business operations. Terna is committed to creating an increasingly
inclusive workplace based on respect and aimed at closing the gender gap, encouraging
collaboration, talent and creativity: a place where people can fulfil their potential regardless of
personal characteristics or gender.
The company that manages the Italian transmission grid for high and extra-high-voltage electricity
currently employs over 5,700 people: this figure includes many women who traditionally were
employed in administrative roles, but which now also includes a more significant presence from
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) courses. Terna is aware of the
importance of these figures and for this reason it is investing heavily in the training and growth of
young female professionals, as demonstrated by the Data Girls programme: the initiative is part of
the GROW ( Generating Real Opportunities for Women) project in collaboration with the Luiss
Business School with the purpose of increasing female presence in the digital sector, which is
growing steadily. Another important project concerning gender equality is EmpowHer. This is an
engagement programme dedicated to promoting female talent, through which Terna strengthened
its commitment to acting as a promoter of gender equality both within and outside the company.
Terna also chose to collaborate with Sistech on the Boos project, a European association that
helps women refugees access jobs in the digital & tech world by financing scholarships in 2023
with the aim of promoting STEM studies and guaranteeing equal opportunities when it comes to
training. The project also includes a series of services to help refugee women find jobs thanks to
language courses and psycho-social support as well as for logistics.
Terna keeps a close eye on the main gender equality indicators to certify equal treatment between
men and women. The company was recently included for the fifth consecutive year, on
Bloomberg’s Gender Equality Index (GEI), the international index that measures company
performance on issues of gender equality and inclusion, and is also among the 100 companies in
the world included on the Standard & Poor’s Gender Equality & Inclusion Index, which selects the
listed companies most attentive to gender equality.
