After 6 months of renovation, the iconic Magritte Museum, flagship of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (RMFAB), is reopening its doors to visitors from all horizons on Saturday 7 October
The Museum's main principles, which were a big success over the past 14 years, remain unchanged: an intimate atmosphere, subdued lighting, a chronological and thematic circuit, sober didactics, masterpieces elegantly displayed… Everything is orchestrated to ensure total immersion in the dreamlike atmosphere of the surrealist genius, into the smallest detail.
Since its opening in 2009, the Magritte Museum has welcomed more than 4 million visitors, over 60% foreigners. It hosts the world's largest collection of works by the famous Belgian surrealist and, 14 years after its creation, continues to be an undeniable cultural, tourist and economic success.
Open 6 days a week, the 2,800 square metre building in the centre of the capital of Europe overlooks the Mont des Arts. It houses some 230 works of art and documents : paintings, drawings, sculptures, advertising posters, photographs and films.
Attracted by the Museum's impact, new lenders continue to entrust their precious Magrittes to the institution (29 new works to be discovered at this reopening!). The exceptional collection, supplemented by donations and new loans, makes this monographic museum a cultural and tourist hub.
“René Magritte lives and revives thanks to all the major exhibitions devoted to him in the 4 corners of the world, but also through the exceptional Musée Magritte,” points out Charly Herscovici, Chairman of the Magritte Foundation, whose aim is to safeguard the oeuvre and reputation of René Magritte. 
In six months’ time, the museum has benefited from a much-needed modernisation : renovated floors, new cameras, repainted walls, a brand-new hanging system, renewed multimedia equipment and 100% LED lighting. Following the example of all departments of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Belgium, the Magritte Museum, through these renovations, is gradually committing itself to energy sobriety.
