(AGENPARL) – mar 26 settembre 2023 29 September 2023 at 15:55 (CEST) – Hybrid event to mark the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW)
The event will see a call to action to reduce food loss and waste toward transforming agrifood systems
Reducing food loss and waste (FLW) plays a crucial role in ensuring better nutrition for the world’s current and future generations. It presents a triple win opportunity, for the climate, for the availability of nutritious food and for improving the overall sustainability of our agrifood systems.
Globally, an estimated 13.2 percent of food produced is lost after harvest and before it reaches retail shelves, and a further 17 percent is wasted in households, food services and in retail. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development calls for halving per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reducing food losses along production and supply chains.
To discuss how to achieve progress on this vital issue, a hybrid event will be held at FAO Headquarters in Rome, beginning at 15:55 on 29 September.
