Prof. Dr. Andreas Altmann to deliver the Annual Herman Mashaba Lecture on Entrepreneurship

The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) will host the annual Herman Mashaba Lecture of Entrepreneurship, titled ‘Let’s talk innovation’.
The inaugural lecture was initiated after the well-known and renowned entrepreneur and former Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Dr Herman Mashaba, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration by CUT’s Faculty of Management Sciences in 2013. Since the inaugural lecture by Dr Mashaba himself in 2014, CUT has brought a sterling line-up of speakers and many opportunities for internal stakeholders and partners to share their knowledge and meet with world experts in this field.
This year’s guest speaker is Prof. Dr. Andreas Altmann, an economist whose expertise is valued in various boards, councils, and bodies in the academic and business sectors. Andreas Altmann’s research, teaching and speaking activities mainly focus on management, innovation, governance, and economic affairs in higher education.
Altmann studied Business Administration and Economics at the University of Linz and Innsbruck in Austria and International Relations at the Johns Hopkins University in Bologna, Italy. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Innsbruck in 1993, where he started his academic career as a post-doc researcher, first at the Department of Finance and later at the Department of Strategic Management. There, he became a member of a task force pursuing the idea of building a new entrepreneurial university institution from scratch, known as MCI | Management Center Innsbruck – The Entrepreneurial School.
He became MCI’s founding director in 1995 and the first rector in 2012. Altmann has successfully led MCI to an internationally acknowledged Entrepreneurial University with 3500 students, 1000 full-time and external faculty members, 300 partner universities and 15 000 successful alumni worldwide.
