Self-Care Day and launch of the self-care competency framework
An estimated 3.6 billion people – half of the world – lack access to essential health services. WHO recommends [self-care interventions](https://worldhealthorganization.cmail19.com/t/d-l-vyhhihy-iitylyihjr-o/) for every country as a critical path to reaching universal health coverage, helping people have more control over their own health; supporting wider healthcare options, and enabling easier access to healthcare.
On 24 July, WHO will release a new resource to help health workers support self-care, by enabling people to test for and manage diseases and disability, prevent illness, or get information relating to their health. The Self-care competency framework is published in three parts: [a knowledge guide](https://worldhealthorganization.cmail19.com/t/d-l-vyhhihy-iitylyihjr-b/), geared at health and care workers; a curriculum guide for use by those involved in planning and delivering education and training of health and care workers; and [competency standards](https://worldhealthorganization.cmail19.com/t/d-l-vyhhihy-iitylyihjr-n/).

World Hepatitis Day 2023 – One life, one liver
28 July is[World Hepatitis Day](https://worldhealthorganization.cmail19.com/t/d-l-vyhhihy-iitylyihjr-yk/). Viral hepatitis still kills over a million people every year. Hepatitis infection is silent and liver health awareness is low. Most symptoms only appear once the disease is advanced, resulting in a huge volume of undiagnosed people living with hepatitis. Even when hepatitis is diagnosed, the number of people who go on to receive treatment is very low.
WHO will release guidance on tracking progress in eliminating hepatitis and a policy report assessing the levels of screening in antenatal clinics, integration with HIV programmes, and more.
