Date Announced for the Inquest into the death of Daniel Legarde

Dr. Harry Voogjarv, Regional Supervising Coroner, North Region, Sudbury Office, has announced the date for the inquest into the death of Daniel Legarde.
Mr. Legarde, 45, died in hospital on November 26, 2016, after being shot by anOntario Provincial Police officer in Nipigon. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Legarde’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
The inquest is expected to last ten days and hear from approximately 18 witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, at the Nipigon Legion Hall, 102 5th Street. Etienne Esquega will be the presiding officer. Christina Varrette and Karen Srodulski will be inquest counsel.
