New progress report on
early childhood development
With the brain growing fastest in the first three years of life, children’s experiences over this window have profound, lifelong impacts on learning, health, behaviour and – ultimately– adult social relationships, well-being and earnings.
The report notes that attention to these vital early years has expanded in policies and related services. However, it calls for increased investments to expand services and demonstrate impact, especially amongst vulnerable populations. Ensuring adequate support for children with developmental difficulties and addressing caregivers’ psychosocial wellbeing are part of this agenda.
