Hybrid gathering aims to establish comprehensive worldwide agreement to combat hunger and malnutrition
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), together with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the National Congress of Chile and the Government of Chile, with the support of the European Commission, the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) and the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Latin America and the Caribbean, will hold the Second Parliamentary Summit against Hunger and Malnutrition on 15-16 June in Valparaíso, Chile.
More than 150 parliamentarians from five continents are expected to attend the hybrid event, which aims to encourage new parliamentary initiatives that leverage the advancements made since the inaugural Summit<https://www.fao.org/about/meetings/global-parliamentary-summit/en/&gt; in Spain in 2018.
The primary objective of this gathering is to establish a comprehensive worldwide agreement to combat hunger and malnutrition. This agreement will encompass regular monitoring and assessment of progress and accomplishments in this critical domain.
The meeting will be held at the headquarters of the National Congress in Valparaíso. The inauguration ceremony will be on June 15 at 0900 Chile time (UTC-4), and will have the participation of:
• President of the Republic of Chile, Gabriel Boric
• President of the Chilean Senate, Juan Antonio Coloma
• President of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile, Vlado Mirosevic
• Deputy President of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Chile, Carolina Marzán
• Deputy Director General and Regional Representative of FAO, Mario Lubetkin
FAO Director-General QU Dongyu will send a special message on this occasion.
The following Nobel Peace Prize laureates will also provide special messages:
• Oscar Arias Sánchez, Nobel Peace Prize 1987
• Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize 2006
• Tawakkol Karman, Nobel Peace Prize 2011
