Vladimir Putin sent
greetings to Russian Jews and all those celebrating Iyar 26, the Day of Salvation and Liberation.
The message reads in part:
“This date has a special place in the Jewish religious calendar and serves to keep alive the memory of the unprecedented feat of the Red Army soldiers and the armies of the anti-Hitler
coalition, who crushed Nazism and saved Jews and other peoples from the threat
of total annihilation.
We and future generations must
cherish the historical truth about the Second World War and understand the devastating consequences of any concession to nationalism, anti-Semitism or xenophobia. It is the followers of Nazism that our soldiers and commanders are
fighting today in the special military operation.
I am convinced that the widespread celebration
of Salvation and Liberation Day will continue to strengthen the spiritual,
cultural and historical traditions of Russian Jews and the patriotic education
of young people.
Of course, the kindest and most
sincere words of gratitude go to our dear veterans, frontline soldiers and workers
of the home front.”
