The Singapore’s European Film Festival (EUFF) is back with its 32nd edition. 24 films produced by 23 European countries will be displayed between the 16 and 31 of May, to celebrate Europe’s shared cultural heritage through cinema. The EUFF is a pillar of the EU’s cultural diplomacy in Asia and the world, as a promoter of key values such as inclusivity, creativity and diversity.
In particular, Italy will have the prestige of being the only country represented by two works, namely Paolo Virzi’s “Dry” and Alice Tomassini’s “Kordon”. Two of the main expressions of Italian cultural commitment towards today’s topical issues, respectively climate change and the war in Ukraine.

The movie is set in a future Rome, where there has been a severe drought for three years, causing major changes in the city’s way of life. The lack of water affects everyone, including a diverse cast of characters who are all searching for redemption in their own ways. From the young to the old, successful to marginalized, and victims to victimizers, their lives are interconnected as they navigate the challenges of living in a city overwhelmed by thirst and restrictions. Virzi’s dystopian comedy-drama, awarded the Premio Pasinetti for “Best Film” at the 79th Venice International Film Festival, the “best soundtrack” at the Soundtrack Stars Award 2022, as well as the Special Prize Green Drop Award, will be projected on May 19 at The Projector (Golden Mile Tower).

This critically acclaimed documentary narrates the story of ordinary women doing extraordinary things to help and give hope to refugees after Russia’s unjustified invasion of Ukraine. Five Ukrainian women volunteers paths intertwine in a suburban station on the border between Ukraine and Hungary. United through and at this timeless train station they do everything they can to help and give hope to Ukrainian refugees. The film weaves an emotional and compelling portrait of courage and solidarity in an intensely trying and testing time. Tomassini’s docu-drama, awarded the prize for “Best Film on Foreign Themes” at the World Premiere at Rome Film Festival 2022, and the “Best Documentary” at UK Film Festival 2022, will be screened on May 28 at The Projector (Golden Mile Tower).
