New Date for Inquest into the Death of Moses Beaver Announced
March 13, 2023
Dr. Michael Wilson, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, announced that a new date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Moses Beaver.
Mr. Beaver, 56, died in hospital on February 13, 2017, after being transferred from the Thunder Bay Jail. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Beaver’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths from occurring in similar circumstances.
The inquest is expected to last 20 days and hear from approximately 32 witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 10 a.m. on April 17, 2023, at 189 Red River Rd., main floor auditorium, Thunder Bay. Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion will preside as inquest officer. Julian Roy and Robert Kozak will be the inquest counsel.
