A secret garden. The magical Land of Oz. The centre of the Earth. Books have the power to transport us to new places, which is why weâre celebrating the books that take our imaginations on a journey this World Book Day.
Help us care for the books in our collection and the journeys they inspire by adopting a book today. Choose from our selection of childhood classics from The Secret Garden to The Wizard of Oz and receive an e-certificate and keepsake card to celebrate your favourite book. The Bookstore with a Mission
Meet Carolynn Bain, founder of Afrori Books, a thriving online, Black-owned bookstore that won the highly commended Start-up in the Future Book Awards and stocks the UKâs largest selection of books by Black authors. With a mission to diversify literature and be a voice for justice, Afrori Books offers over 2,000 books by authors who struggle to find a place on the shelves of major bookstores.
Carolynn started her business in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, founded on the idea that what we read changes who we are. She sought help from [BIPC](https://britishlibraryemails.bl.uk/5JXV-QG0J-6TJVT-J98H4-1/c.aspx) Sussex and used the COBRA database, an essential tool in expanding her business.
Our Business & IP Centres (BIPCs) support small business owners to start up, protect and grow their business.
