Toronto City Council moves 2023 Budget meeting to February 15 to honour the late Hazel McCallion
Today, Toronto City Council voted to move next week’s Special City Council meeting on the proposed 2023 Budget to Wednesday, February 15, from February 14, out of respect for the late Hazel McCallion whose state funeral will be held on February 14, on what would have been her 102nd birthday.
At the Special City Council meeting on February 15, Council will consider Mayor Tory’s 2023 Proposed Operating and Capital Budgets along with budget-related items within Council authority. The meeting will be livestreamed on the Toronto City Council YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/@TorontoCityCouncilLive/streams. McCallion served as mayor of the City of Mississauga for 36 years. She was first elected in November 1978, and went on to serve 12 consecutive terms as mayor, becoming the longest-serving mayor in Mississauga’s history. She was born on February 14, 1921, and passed away on January 29, at the age of 101. Flags at Toronto City Hall, Metro Hall and all civic centres will be lowered to half-mast on February 14 in McCallion’s honour.
