Congress to observe regional and district council repeat elections in Berlin
Strasbourg, 8 February 2023 – A 10-member delegation from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will carry out an election observation mission from 11 to 13 February to observe the repeat elections of the House of Representatives and District Councils in Berlin (Germany). These will be held on 12 February 2023, as the re-run of the elections held on 26 September 2021.
Prior to the Election Day, the delegation, led by Vladimir Prebilic (Slovenia, L, SOC/G/PD), held online briefings on 2 February 2023, with members of the Delegation of Germany to the Congress and representatives of regional and district election administration bodies, domestic and international NGOs, and the media.
On 11 February, the delegation will exchange views with representatives and candidates of political parties running in the repeat elections.
On Election Day, six Congress teams will be deployed in all twelve districts of Berlin to monitor the election procedures in polling stations.
The preliminary conclusions will be presented by the Head of Delegation at a press conference in Berlin on Monday 13 February 2023 at 11h00 CETS (Venue: Abba Berlin Hotel, Salamanca Room, Lietzenburg Straße 89, Berlin).
