The Visitor gathers events listings
Bainbridge, 25 November, 2022
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s website and official visitor guide is helping people promote their events in the National Park in 2023.
Local organisations, clubs and individuals are invited to register an event – such as a fell run, course, talk or fete – on the [online events calendar](https://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/things-to-do/whats-on/). The National Park Authority website is seen by about 1.9 million people annually.
Events uploaded by Monday the 12th of December will be considered for inclusion in the listings section of the Authority’s official printed annual guide for the area, The Visitor magazine.
A total of 80,000 copies of The Visitor 2023 will be printed in March and distributed locally, regionally and nationally to tourist information centres, visitor attractions, B&Bs, cafes, service stations and other outlets.
Listings on the online calendar and in The Visitor magazine are free.
An events calendar in various formats has been hosted and managed by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority for more than 20 years, while The Visitor has been published since 1981.
The Authority’s Member Champion for Promoting Understanding, Kevin Frea, said: “Our online events calendar is a great way for people to publicise what’s happening – for free. It takes only minutes to create an account and publish details of an event.
“Having an event listed online and in The Visitor magazine could boost attendance at the event. The Visitor is a much-loved guide which promotes enjoyment and understanding of the special qualities of the National Park. It is read by those planning their trip to the National Park and is also picked up by visitors who have already arrived and are looking for good things to do.”
In the past few weeks, local businesses have been booking their advertising slots.
“The Visitor magazine gives visitors and residents alike a great insight into what is happening across the Dales and is very popular with visitors to the Gallery and guests in our holiday accommodation,” said Steve Smith at Yore Mill Craft Shop and Gallery at Aysgarth Falls in the Richmondshire part of the National Park.
“We have advertised in The Visitor for many years now”, said Jayne Wilson at Greenwood Leghe Holiday Home & Lodge Park in Ingleton in the Craven district. “We feel that it reaches the people who are potentially looking to purchase their own holiday home in the Yorkshire Dales.”
John Pridmore, Yorkshire Dry Stone Walling Guild Chairman, said: “The Visitor is an excellent magazine, highlighting all that’s so good about the Yorkshire Dales. Drystone walls form the natural fabric of the Dales, so we’re pleased to promote our drystone walling training courses in a magazine that’s dedicated to the area.”
