HSE has published new principles and guidance to support businesses and help them create an inclusive approach to workplace health.

Launched one year ago this week, the Working Minds campaign has announced a new partner and podcast.
Working Minds calls for change across Britain’s workplaces where stress, depression and anxiety are responsible for half of ill-health reports among workers.
The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has become the latest organisation to join the campaign, which means the number of partners has more than doubled since launch. This week, the campaign has also reached a significant milestone of 1000 champions signed up to support and amplify messages.
To coincide with the anniversary, HSE Chair Sarah Newton is joined by one of the world’s foremost experts on wellbeing, Professor Cary Cooper, for a new episode of the HSE Podcast.
Professor Cooper is the author/editor of over 170 books, has written more than 450 scholarly articles for academic journals, and is a frequent contributor to national newspapers, TV and radio. They talk about the importance of stress, mental good health and the Working Minds campaign.

A transport company has been fined £400,000 after one of its drivers was killed after being knocked off his trailer while loading and unloading it.
The worker, who was was delivering timber, had climbed onto the bed of his trailer to sling the load and attach it to the vehicle-mounted crane. While moving the load using the crane’s remote control, he was struck by the crane and fell from the vehicle to the ground.
HSE’s investigation found that this incident was the result of health and safety failings by the company.

Today (17 November) is World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day.
COPD describes a number of breathing problems where there is damage to the breathing tubes and air sacs within the lung.
Breathing in certain dusts, fumes, chemicals or gases in the workplace can cause serious, long-term lung damage. This includes prolonged exposure to airborne particles of respirable crystalline silica (RCS).
