(AGENPARL) – lun 24 ottobre 2022 Ladies and gentlemen,
Good afternoon and welcome.
Today marks another day full of meaning to us, as we prepare to celebrate two significant milestones:
The start of construction of our next cruise vessel, with her Steel Cutting Ceremony; and
The completion of MSC World Europa’s construction, which is about to join our fleet, with her Delivery Ceremony
We mark the start of construction of a new vessel by coming together to cut the first sheet of steel that will be used to build her hull.
This is a tradition that we always observe.
Our World Class is the fifth prototype that we build with Chantiers de l’Atlantique, our partners.
Following our successful Lirica, Musica, Fantasia and Meraviglia classes.
Every prototype that we have conceived, we have improved with subsequent units.
Our World Class is no exception.
MSC World Europa represents a step change into the future of cruising, but this second vessel will be even more innovative. [LOOK AT MSC WORLD EUROPA]
Expect to see significant improvements in terms of design, guest-centric features, and – most importantly – environmental technologies.
Sustainability is the defining challenge of our time.
Every economic sector is on a race to decarbonise.
At MSC we feel a deep responsibility towards our planet and its people.
Not only as a business, but also as a family with a long-term vision.
And, as an industry, we just reaffirmed our commitment to improve our environmental footprint in the Mediterranean at the Blue Maritime Summit in Marseilles.
Every vessel that we build takes us closer to ‘net zero’.
This one will be no exception…in fact, we expect to take a big step forward in that direction.
MSC World Europa is, we believe, the world’s best performing cruise ship in terms of emissions per guest.
Well, her younger sister’s performance will be even higher!
Among other advancements, we are developing a new technology that reduces methane slip by 99%, unlocking LNG’s potential as the most sustainable fuel available at scale.
With MSC World Europa, we have developed a ground-breaking fuel cell technology that achieves further emission reductions.
We will scale up the pilot that we developed to reach megawatts of power production, rather than kilowatts.
Our objective is to achieve zero CO2 emissions while in port.
I also thank our technical team in London and here in Saint Nazaire, for their work and diligence.
Led by Emilio La Scala and Gaetano Rolando.
Thank you!
And I thank the entire MSC Cruises team.
Not only for their contribution to this vessel, but for everything they have done for our Company during the past two challenging years.
Thank you!
Dear all,
Ours is a future-oriented industry developing sustainable solutions that will ultimately benefit our societies.
The technologies that we conceive will trickle down to touch every aspect of our lives, contributing to the decarbonisation of our economy.
We hope that regulators across the world continue to recognise our role in this process.
Now, the moment has come to unveil the ship’s name.
MSC World Europa’s sister will be called….
This one is not very hard, I’m sure some of you have already guessed it!
Without further ado, please, welcome…
