(AGENPARL) – mar 30 agosto 2022 I am deeply honored to write to you in my capacity as the first woman to lead the Center for International Policy (CIP) in its nearly 50-year history. I could not be prouder of our organization’s achievements, which would not have been possible without advocates like you. However, the work continues.
I came to CIP at the beginning of this year with a new vision, one that meets this particularly challenging time. The dangers confronting us today – pandemics, climate change, war, the dire consequences of nuclear proliferation- are universal threats that disproportionately impact marginalized populations, both globally and domestically.
We cannot address such challenges with the same conventional approaches that have led us to this moment of crisis. We need transformational changeto redirect US foreign policy towards a more accountable and effective role in the world. I am confident that, together, we can create such change.
This conviction is based not only on my professional experience; it is deeply personal. For ten years, I have lived in political exile in the US after being unfairly sentenced to prison in my home country of Egypt. However painful my past, I remain determined to fight for those who continue to suffer from violence and injustice. On behalf of CIP, I am asking for your assistance in continuing our transformational efforts to end war, promote diplomacy, enhance national security, and champion human rights.
This letter is not only an appeal to support CIP, but an invitation to join us in creating the conditions for greater global peace, justice, and security. A safer, more equitable world is within our reach and we welcome the opportunity to work together to achieve it.
