Manitoba Government Invites Municipalities to Apply for Funding Under the Municipal Service Delivery Improvement Program

More Than $1.7 Million in Funding to Ensure Ongoing Supports for Municipalities: Clarke
The Manitoba government has launched the second intake of the Municipal Service Delivery Improvement Program, which provides funding for municipalities and planning districts to find ways to improve services and find efficiencies, Municipal Relations Minister Eileen Clarke announced today.
“Manitobans rely on local governments to deliver important programs and services in an effective and efficient manner,” said Clarke. “This investment is the second intake of the Municipal Service Delivery Improvement Program since it was launched last year. It will assist municipalities and planning districts to identify opportunities, make improvements where needed and enhance services without raising taxes.”
Municipalities and planning districts can apply for provincial funding through the program to conduct service delivery reviews to identify opportunities for savings. Service delivery programs in the areas of transportation, protection, water and sewer, recreation and culture, waste management, planning and general government administration, and other core services can be reviewed.
Potential savings from these initiatives will stay with municipalities and can be reallocated to other priorities in the community, the minister noted.
In March 2021, the Manitoba government committed up to $5 million over four years to support this program. Last year, the first intake resulted in 11 successful projects receiving more than $1.1 million.
