B9?0297/2022
Motion for a European Parliament resolution for a less polarised society in these difficult times
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 143 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas some EU Member States have legitimised the use of coarse language such as the expression ‘??????? ??????? ??????? ??? ??…’, which can be translated, in the same register, as ‘Russian warship, go f… yourself!’;
B. whereas this coarseness is being targeted at EU citizens of Russian origin who have nothing to do with the war in Ukraine and do not even support it;
C. whereas in these difficult times for our entire planet, rising antagonisms in society will only exacerbate division and undermine unity;
D. whereas legitimising the use of profanity in public language brings down the moral standard of society and does not contribute to finding a productive solution to the problems we face;
E. whereas in times of crisis it is vital that society remains united;
1. Calls on the Commission to draw up rules prohibiting the sowing of discord and the deepening of divisions within society in the Member States and undermining the unity of the European Union.
