Within the framework of the Esch 2022 initiative, and as part of a joint event between the Business Club Belgium-Luxembourg (BCBL) and the Belgian Business Club Luxembourg (BBCL), a delegation comprising 40 participants was given a guided tour of the AI & Art Pavilion and the Computational Creativity Hub (CCH) on 2 June 2022. The delegation included Thomas Lambert and Stephan Müller, the Belgian and Luxembourgish ambassadors accredited respectively in Luxembourg and Belgium.
The AI & Art Pavilion is a project created by the University’s Department of Computer Science (DCS) and coordinated by Prof. Leon Van der Torre, in cooperation with several of his colleagues, in particular Prof. Christoph Schommer, associate professor in Artificial Intelligence, as well as artists and young researchers. It explores a broad range of issues covering the relationship between art and artificial intelligence. It allows visitors to better understand recent developments in artificial intelligence but also to question our relationship with art in a fun and entertaining way through artistic and future-oriented projects.
The Pavilion was explicitly chosen as part of the visit. Prof. Schommer opened the event with a welcome speech. Dr. Sana Nouzri, one of the project managers, Thibaud Latour (Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology) and Prince Yaw Gharbin (CCH) guided the visitors through the project presentations.
The event, which was instigated by the desire to strengthen the Belgian-Luxembourg business community and to highlight potential synergies, provided a unique opportunity to promote exchanges and to raise awareness of the common (industrial) history between the two countries.
Talking about the event, Prof. Schommer said, “It was a proud moment for the students who presented their innovative projects alongside many artists who were also present.”
Camille Nothomb, Trade and Economic Attaché at the Embassy of Luxembourg in Brussels, who organised the event, said, “It was very interesting and inspiring for the whole delegation to have a deep insight of the activities and projects taking place at the AI & Art Pavilion, and in the University in general. Creativity, innovation and consciousness were qualities that our Ambassadors and Business Clubs did notice and appreciate during our visit.”
