PACE Standing Committee to meet in Dublin
Reports due to be debated include access to abortion in Europe: stopping anti-choice harassment; gender mainstreaming of migration policies; addiction to prescribed medicines; and eradicating extreme child poverty in Europe as an international obligation and a moral duty.
Ireland takes up the six-month Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers on 20th May 2022.
(*) The Standing Committee, which acts on the Assembly’s behalf between plenary sessions, is made up of the President and Vice-Presidents of the Assembly, the chairpersons of political groups, the chairpersons of national delegations and the committee chairpersons, totalling some 60 parliamentarians from the Council of Europe’s 46 member States.

31 May, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing five judgments concerning Albania, Iceland, Russia, Spain and Turkey.
31 May, Strasbourg (Palais de l’Europe, room 2) – A conference entitled “Combating Hate Speech in Sport” will be organised to present the joint project of that name funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
This project aims to explore innovative approaches to tackle the problem by providing technical assistance to public authorities in member states and other sport stakeholders in order to develop effective, comprehensive strategies within a human rights framework.
Based on examples of practices and measures promoting the rights of the child, the discussions will focus on four main areas: legislation, training, decision-making process and supporting measures.
The Congress will bring together stakeholders in global education, in particular international organisations, governments, parliamentarians, local and regional authorities, civil society organisations, as well as educators from Europe and beyond.
As per tradition for all countries acceding to the Chair, the Irish flag will be raised in the city centre of Strasbourg (at 2.30 p.m., Place de la République). Before, at 2 p.m., a tram in the colours of Ireland will be inaugurated at the station “Droits de l’Homme”.
2 June, Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights will notify in writing 35 judgments and/or decisions concerning Albania, Azerbaijan, Croatia, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.
The Children’s Forum will be chaired by Josiane Bigot, President of THEMIS.
