WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 20, 2020) – The Point University women’s golf team opens their 2020 season on Monday, as they host the second annual Point University Fall Invitational. The Point University Fall Invitational will be held at the Point University Golf Club in Lanett, Alabama.
Steven Paine will be taking over as the women’s head coach this season and is entering his seventh year as head coach for the Point University men’s golf team. Paine’s goal for the women’s team is to use the fall season to make the necessary adjustments heading into the spring season.
“We have a very young squad this year,” Paine said. “We are confident that if we can make the right adjustments in the fall, we could be a top-three team in the AAC and hopefully find ourselves with a national ranking.”
The Skyhawks will be returning lone senior Ally Warnke, who has competed in every event for the women during her playing career. “Ally has shown much improvement of late, and we expect her to go out with a bang this year,” Paine said.
Newcomers that are expected to make an impact for the Skyhawks include South Dakota State transfer Madge Kruger and freshman Peyton Woody.
The Skyhawks have four events on the schedule for the fall and Paine is excited to see the team compete against Appalachian Athletic Conference rivals. “Each event we play this fall, we will face several AAC opponents, which is great as it allows us to see what we will be up against in the spring and what it will take to compete for a league title,” Paine said.
The Skyhawks will tee off Monday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. to begin their 2020 fall season. Scores, as they come in, can be found here.
