BLANCHARD, Okla. – Monday and Tuesday, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma women’s and men’s golf teams competed in cold and wet conditions at the Battle at Winter Creek, marking the program’s first time hosting a tournament. The Drovers dominated on their home course, capturing a men’s team win, as well as individual victories for Gage Gibson and Hannah Price (JR/Ada, OK).
The men’s team has won three of the last four tournaments that they’ve played in, and Gibson’s win was his second consecutive individual title. Gibson posted scores of 77 and 80 in the first two rounds at Winter Creek, but blazed the course with a 74 in the third and final round.
Tate Trotter led the tournament after the first two rounds, with scores of 81 and 71. Trotter closed the tournament with an 80, finishing just one stroke back of Gibson for second-place.
Austin Davis earned his fourth straight Top-10 finish with a three-round score of 233 (75, 84, 74), for a fourth-place finish, one stroke behind Trotter.
Caleb Smith played well and earned a seventh-place finish after posting a final score of 238 (81, 75, 82). Two strokes behind Smith was Caleb Nichols, finishing in ninth-place with a score of 240 (82, 81, 77).
Hannah Price became the first women’s golfer in program history to win an individual title, posting a two-round score of 172 (84, 88). Earlier this month, the Sooner Athletic Conference selected Price as the conference’s Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Since September 28, the Drovers have earned three men’s team wins, four individual wins (3m, 1w), three SAC Golfer of the Week awards, 16 Top-5 finishers, and 19 Top-10 finshers.
The Battle at Winter Creek was USAO’s last tournament of the fall and the Drovers will now prepare to continue their success in the spring of 2021!
