CHICKASHA, Okla. – Thursday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (3-2, 0-0 SAC) suffered a tough 62-76 loss against Southwestern Christian University (3-0, 0-0 SAC). SCU took an early lead and never looked back as they earned their third straight win to start the season.
SCU got off to a red-hot start, knocking down several three-pointers to take a 24-19 lead into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Eagles continued to knocked down long-range shots to take a 52-40 lead into the break. SCU went 12-for-20 from beyond the arc in the first half.
Following halftime, the Drovers began to tighten the score as they played better defense. USAO outscored SCU 14-10 in the third quarter, but the Drovers still trailed 54-62 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles were able to hold off the Drovers with strong defense, closing out the win for SCU.
Zaria Dorsey (JR/Bronx, NY) and Jordan Bloomfield (FR/Fletcher, OK) each led the Drovers in scoring with 12 points apiece. Additionally, Dorsey grabbed seven rebounds, while Bloomfield added four rebounds and three assists.
Kaytlen Johnson (SR/Anadarko, OK) once again came close to a triple-double, closing with 10 points, six rebounds, and seven assists.
Tori James (SR/Blanchard, OK) knocked down a trio of three pointer to finish with nine points, six rebounds, and two blocks on the defensive end of the court.
The Drovers will now go into their mid-season break, and they will return to action on January 9, when they open 2021 at Southwestern Christian University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM in Bethany, Oklahoma.
