WARHAWKS CLAIM DAY ONE LEAD AT UT ARLINGTON INVITE

(AGENPARL) – MONROE (LOUISIANA), mar 20 ottobre 2020

ARLINGTON, Texas – The ULM women’s golf team has four players inside the top seven and leads the six-team field by five strokes after the first day of the UT Arlington Invitational at Texas Rangers Golf Club.

The Warhawks shot a 6-over-par 582 (285-297) to lead Houston Baptist by five strokes after the first two rounds.

“The girls had a great opening round,” ULM assistant golf coach Lana Hodge said. “The birdie putts were falling and the girls were swinging it well. The afternoon was a little bit of a struggle. They didn’t play bad; they just let a few shots get away.”

Junior Jahaanvie Walia is in third place after the first day of the tournament. Walia shot a 1-under-par 143 (69-74). Walia had a bogey-free first round, picking up birdies on the par-3 11th, par-4 16th and par-4 17th to shoot a 3-under-par 69. In her second round, she birdied back-to-back holes on the par-3 sixth and par-4 seventh to go with 13 pars for a 2-over-par 74. She is five shots off the lead of Houston Baptist’s Tiffany Nguyen at 6-under-par 138.

“Jahaanvie had a great opening round,” Hodge said. “She played steady all day.”

In the second round, Dueringer birdied the par-4 second, par-4 10th and par-5 13th holes and earned 10 pars for a 3-over-par 75.
