MONROE, La. – The ULM men’s and women’s golf teams are ranked inside the Top 30 nationally, while three individuals are ranked inside the Top 60 in the latest collegiate golf rankings from Golfstat.
“Both programs are in good shape after the fall season, winning team championships and individual highlights,” ULM Director of Golf Tim Baldwin said. “Our players are putting ULM golf on the map.”
The Warhawk men’s golf team is ranked No. 26 after finishing in the Top 5 in all four fall tournaments. ULM tied for the team championship at Middle Tennessee’s Intercollegiate at The Grove and placed third at UAB’s Graeme McDowell Invitational.
Individually, senior Guillaume Fanonnel is ranked No. 15. He won his final three tournaments of the fall, taking the crown at the Graeme McDowell Invitational, the Intercollegiate at The Grove and the Little Rock Invitational. Fanonnel is the second-ranked golfer in the Sun Belt and the top-ranked golfer in the state of Louisiana. He has a record of 337-15 in the fall while going 3-1 against Top 25 competition, 3-0 against golfers ranked 26-50 and 23-0 against golfers ranked 51-100.
On the women’s side, the Warhawks are ranked No. 29. ULM won its final tournament of the fall, the UT Arlington Invitational, and finished third at the USA Intercollegiate.
Individually, sophomore Chantal Dueringer is ranked No. 27. She placed inside the Top 5 of all three fall tournaments, tying for third at the USA Intercollegiate, tying for fourth at the Hoover Invitational and placing third at the UT Arlington Invitational. Dueringer is the second-ranked golfer in the Sun Belt and the third-ranked golfer in the state of Louisiana. She posted a record of 232-26 in the fall while going 1-0 against Top 25 competition, 3-0 against golfers ranked 26-50 and 12-1 against golfers ranked 51-100.
Junior Jahaanvie Walia is ranked No. 56. She placed fourth at both the Hoover Invitational and UT Arlington Invitational and was 14th at the USA Intercollegiate. Walia had a record of 203-55 in the fall while going 9-3 against golfers ranked 51-100 in the Golfstat rankings.
“I’m looking forward to continued success this spring and making runs for the Sun Belt Conference Championships in April,” Baldwin said.
The golf teams are scheduled to return to the course in the spring semester, with the men opening at the Arizona Intercollegiate on Jan. 25-27 and the women opening at the Texas State Invitational on Feb. 8-9.
