The Australian Library and Information Association is pleased to announce that Trish Hepworth will join the team on 7 December as Director of Policy and Education. She brings experience from a diverse career spanning corporate, government and NGO roles in four countries. Most recently the Policy and Research Director at the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE), Trish is already well-known in the library and information sector for her previous roles as the Executive Officer of the Australian Digital Alliance and Copyright and Policy Adviser with the Australian Libraries Copyright Committee.
Trish will be leading ALIA’s major new 4-year initiative emerging from recent investigations into the Future of LIS Education, with the plan to be released on Monday 30 November. Her team will include Kirrin Sampson (Strategic Projects and Engagement Manager), Jacqui Lucas (Learning Coordinator and Teacher Librarian), Andrew Finegan (Communications Manager), and two positions for which ALIA will be recruiting in the new year.
ALIA Director of Learning, Kate Bunker said, ‘More than 500 people have been actively involved in the Future of LIS Education discussion and it has given us an exciting and challenging opportunity to transform the LIS profession in Australia. Having led this initiative during its 12 month development phase, I am pleased to hand it over to Trish and the team to work together with educators, members and employers to make it happen.’ Kate will be retiring from ALIA at the end of January 2021 but will remain a valued contributor to the initiative.
