THE WEST MUST NOW BE UNITED ON RUSSIA

GMF Senior Fellow Jamie Fly and President of the Free Russia Foundation Natalia Arno discuss Nordstream 2, Germany’s illusions about Putin’s Russia, the case of Alexi Navalny, Russia as a challenge for transatlantic cooperation, and the incoming Biden administration in their op-ed for Welt am Sonntag. In their piece, Fly and Arno note that “the start of a new U.S. administration offers an opportunity for more effective transatlantic cooperation on Russia grounded in shared transatlantic values of freedom, democracy, and respect for the rule of law.” They conclude that “the question is whether the Kremlin’s continued blatant disregard for fundamental human rights will force German illusions about the Kremlin to end as well or whether Berlin will leave the Biden administration to tackle the Putin challenge alone.”
