The Sultanate’s local production of livestock, dairy and poultry products by the end of 2019 reached 47,000 tons of red meat, 101,000 tons of fresh milk, 129,000 tons of poultry and 427 million eggs, according to the data released in the statistical yearbook issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The data also show that livestock population in the Sultanate by the end of 2019 included 405,000 cows, 273,000 camels, 617,000 sheep, and 2,348,000 goats, compared to 397,000 cows, 268,000 camels, 605,000 sheep and 2,302,000 goats at the end of 2018.
The data indicate that the number of vaccinated livestock in the Sultanate until the end of 2019 reached 2,289,026 different kinds of animals.
The vaccinations included vaccines for foot and mouth disease (FMD) and smallpox (for goats and sheep), in addition to vaccines for toxicity, rabies, testicular poisoning and PPR.
The same data pointed out that the number of treated livestock and other kind of animals in the Sultanate by the end of 2019 reached 2,491,979 animals, including 291,891 cows, 434,007 sheep, 1,365, 936 goats, 398,976 camels, 479 horses and donkeys, and 690,000 other animals.
