MCPHERSON, Kan. – The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma men’s golf team earned its first team win and first individual win in program history at the Central Christian Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. Caleb Nichols (SR/Chickasha, OK) led the Drovers to victory, as he shot a three-round score of 223 (77, 74, 72), to win the tournament’s individual crown. The Drovers dominated the 6338-yard par 70 course, coming in 101 shots lower than the second-place finisher, Central Christian College.
The Drovers finished with a team score of 903 after three rounds, earning the program its first victory in only its second year of existence. The top five individual finishers of the tournament all wore USAO uniforms, which makes the victory even more impressive.
Austin Davis (JR) concluded the tournament in second-place with a score of 225 (72, 79, 74). Caleb Smith (SO/Yukon, OK) finished closely behind Davis in third, with a score of 228 (76, 83, 69). Smith’s third-round score of 69 was the best single-round performance by a Drover in the tournament.
The Drovers will aim to stay hot when they hit the course again on Monday, October 5 at the Dornick Hills Classic in Ardmore, Okla.
