Islamic Development Bank, International Atomic Energy Agency and the Center for Global Health and Development hosted the first roundtable discussion to mobilise stakeholders in the right against women’s cancers.
IsDB- IAEA’s initiative, ‘Saving Women’s Lives From Cancer’ which is led by HE Dr Bandar Hajjar, President of IsDB Group, utilises the core principles of sustainable financing and P5P (private, public, philanthropic and people partnership) to transform diagnosis and treatment of breast and cervical cancer in member countries.
Through this partnership, IsDB and IAEA aim to provide funding through a blended financing structure that will bring together stakeholders from the private sector, development agencies and multi-lateral agencies to help improve diagnosis and treatment of breast and cervical cancer.
Keynote speakers at the virtual roundtable included Dr Hayat Sindi, Senior Advisor to the President, Science, Technology and Innovation from IsDB, Lisa Stevens, Director at IAEA, and Joanne Manrique from the Center for Global Health and Development.
Speaking at the roundtable discussion Dr Hayat Sindi, stressed the urgent need for essential cancer services in IsDB member countries, “the IsDB – IAEA partnership initiative ‘Saving Women’s Lives From Cancer,’ will provide a concrete platform delivering tangible results to comprehensively address cancer prevention, screening, diagnostics and treatment services for women in our common member countries. It will contribute to saving over 1 million women’s lives from breast cancer and 3.7 million women’s lives from cervical cancer over the next decade. And we want to go even further.”
