LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – ULM senior Guillaume Fanonnel is once again in contention for an individual title, sitting one shot off the lead following the first two rounds of the Little Rock Invitational at Chenal Country Club’s Founders Course.

The Warhawk men’s golf team is in fifth place after shooting a first-day total of 5-under-par 571 (286-285). Arkansas State leads the tournament at 23-under-par 553.

Fanonnel has won the last two tournaments he has played in. He posted a two-round total of 8-under-par 136 Monday, which included matching his career-record low round of 5-under-par 67 in the second round. He is one shot behind UT Arlington’s Zac Cole, who shot a two-round total of 9-under-par 135 (68-67).

ULM opened on the third hole in both rounds on Monday. Fanonnel posted birdies on six holes in the first round, including on the par-4 third and fifth holes to begin his day. He added back-to-back birdies on the par-5 ninth and par-4 10th holes. He picked up his final two birdies on the par-4 15th and 18th holes to close the first round at 3-under-par 69.

Fanonnel continued to pile up the red numbers in his second round, posting eight birdies. He repeated a birdie on the third to start the round and added another on the par-3 fourth hole. He again went back-to-back with birdies on the ninth and 10th holes. He caught fire late in the round, draining birdies on the par-5 16th, par-3 17th, par-4 18th and par-5 first to match his career-low round of 5-under-par 67.

Freshman Melan Dhaubhadel is tied for 30th at 1-over-par 145 (72-73). He had three birdies in his first round, going under par at the par-4 eighth, par-5 ninth and par-4 second. He added 12 pars to finish at even-par 72. In the second round, Dhaubhadel knocked down four birdies, starting on the par-3 sixth, par-5 ninth, par-5 12th and par-4 18th. He had nine pars to finish at 1-over-par 73 for the round.

Sophomore Keegan McLachlan finished the first day at 2-over-par 146 (72-74). He had five birdies in the first round, including three consecutive birdies on the par-3 11th, par-5 12th and par-4 13th. He also birdied the par-4 third and par-4 eighth holes to go with eight pars for an even-par 72. In the second round, McLachlan birdied the 12th and collected his second eagle of the season on the par-5 first to go with 13 pars to finish at 2-over-par 74 for the round.

Sophomore Otto Van Buynder rebounded from a rough first round with a solid second round. Van Buynder shot a 3-over-par 147 (76-71) on the first day. In his opening round, he had back-to-back birdies on the par-4 15th and par-5 16th to go with 11 pars for a 4-over-par 76. In the second round, he had four birdies, starting with the par-4 eighth and par-5 ninth holes. He added birdies on the par-4 13th and par-5 first to pair with 13 pars to finish at 1-under-par 71 in the round.

Senior Andoni Etchenique is at 5-over-par 149 (73-76) after the first day. In the first round, he birdied the par-5 ninth before posting consecutive birdies on the par-5 12th and par-4 13th and again at the par-5 first and par-4 second holes. He had eight pars in the round as he shot 1-over-par 73. In the second round, he collected birdies on the par-4 seventh, par-5 12th and par-5 16th and added 10 pars for a 4-over-par 76.

Sophomore Michael Gilbert had a first-day total of 154 (76-78). Gilbert birdied the par-5 ninth and par-5 first holes and added 11 pars for a 4-over-par 76 in the first round. In the second round, he birdied the par-4 seventh, par-5 ninth and par-4 second and picked up nine pars for a 6-over-par 78.

The Warhawks wrap up the Little Rock Invitational at 8 a.m. Tuesday and will tee off from the ninth hole. A link to live scoring is available on the men’s golf schedule page at
