ENGINEERING: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

(AGENPARL) – STORRS (CONNECTICUT USA), mer 21 ottobre 2020

Faculty Positions in Sea-Level Rise Prediction, Climate Change Adaptation, and Coastal Infrastructure Protection
As part of a strategic interdisciplinary initiative in Sustainable Development, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the National University of Singapore seeks faculty candidates for multiple tenure-track appointments across the domain areas of environmental sustainability, climate change and coastal engineering. Hiring will be at the assistant professor level, but exceptionally well-qualified candidates may also be considered at the associate professor level.

CEE, a vibrant department with talented faculty members and students, is widely acknowledged to be a national and international leader in both education and research, and is consistently ranked among the top ten in the world. The Department addresses fundamental as well as applied research questions associated with the built environment, the natural environment and interactions between the two. To tackle emerging challenges with consolidated expertise, we have formed six research clusters: (1) climate change mitigation and adaptation, (2) digital and smart technology, (3) smart and liveable cities, (4) environmental protection and sustainability, (5) offshore and ocean infrastructures, and (6) resilient urban systems. These clusters promote interdisciplinary as well as translational research. CEE is in the midst of a significant expansion in size and scope across disciplinary boundaries to develop transformative solutions to urban and global challenges and help prepare society for the future in conjunction with other departments across the university and beyond.

We seek exceptionally talented candidates who will develop the next generation of solutions to sustainability challenges and demonstrate excellence in system-level thinking. Relevant research topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Sea-level rise prediction
  • Climate change impacts on coastal ecosystems
  • Coastal flooding due to changing climate
  • Nearshore hydrodynamics
  • Climate change vulnerability and adaptation
  • Coastal infrastructure protection
  • Mitigation of coastal hazards
  • Coastal engineering
Research connections that extend beyond the traditional bounds of Civil and Environmental Engineering are highly desired.

Candidates should have a PhD degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable. Ability to develop and maintain an internationally recognized and externally funded research program within area of expertise will be an added advantage. Faculty members will be expected to teach existing undergraduate and graduate courses as part of the Civil and Environmental Engineering curricula as well as develop new and innovative courses related to sustainability and climate change. They will also be encouraged to collaborate across disciplines.

NUS offers internationally competitive remuneration, relocation assistance and other benefits. Newly recruited tenurable faculty members can apply for start-up grants to facilitate the establishment of their research and development in NUS. Details of start-up grants are available on
https://staffportal.nus.edu.sg/staffportal/iw/resources/staffportal/researc…%20Start%20Up/DPRT_PP003_-_Revision_to_Start_up_grants_for_new_recruits(v8).pdf

Applications received by December 15, 2020 will be given a full consideration. Only short-listed candidates will be notified. The expected start date is July 1, 2021.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter, their detailed curriculum vitae with a full list of publications, statements of research and teaching interests and plans (maximum 3 pages each), and the names of three referees with contact details to:
